#13 Firestorm (The Caretaker Trilogy, #1) by David Klass

Everything was going great for Jack.  Star of the football team, great girlfriend, good grades.  And then one night, after a game, Jack sees a man pass by him and the man's eyes shine silver.  When he mentions this to his father, everything in Jack's life changes.  Suddenly, his father and mother are not really his father and mother and he is on the run from something he doesn't understand.  After making his way to New York City, he is trapped by a Gorm in a penthouse apartment and barely escapes death.  On the way out of the apartment, he meets a dog who can talk to him telepathically.  The dog joins him as he runs for his life and on the way Jack finds out that he was born 1000 years in the future and sent back in time to save the world.  He is the 'Beacon of Hope' for the people of the future.  The problem is that he must find Firestorm and nobody knows what it is or where it can be found.  This book makes a strong case for protecting the earth's environment and how what we are doing today effects the generations of the future.  But it is well written and keeps you guessing as you go along.
